Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Paul Huf Award 2011

Arthub Asia’s Davide Quadrio is chosen as member of the jury for the Foam Paul Huf Award 2011, the annual prize given to a young international talent in photography under 35 years of age.

Foam has a special relationship with Dutch photographer Paul Huf (1924-2001). Huf was known for his innovative manner of photography. One of the last large projects in which Paul Huf was personally involved was the founding of Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam in 2001.

Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam is the Dutch capital’s hub for photography in all its guises: from documentary to fashion, from contemporary to historical. Foam is a young and vital museum that stages large-scale exhibitions of work by world-famous photographers as well as work by talented, upcoming photographers in smaller short-term presentations.

Since 2007, Foam has annually organized the Paul Huf Award. The Paul Huf Award is a prize that is awarded to a young, talented photographer under the age of 35, who has already developed a personal visual idiom and is producing work that is distinctive in terms of content as well as formal aspects. The Award is named after the influential Dutch photographer and strong supporter of young talented photographers, Paul Huf. We wish to continuously honor his name through this important international photography award. The Paul Huf Award has grown into a vital element of Foam.

In order to arrive at a representative selection for the Paul Huf Award 2010 we approached twenty nominators from different parts of the world. Each of these nominators, experts in the field of photography, are being asked to select five talented individuals in the region where they are active, in order to draw up a longlist of about 100 young photographers. An international jury will select the winner from this longlist in March.

The Paul Huf Award comprises of a cash prize of € 20,000 and an exhibition at Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam in August/September 2011. The 2007 Paul Huf Award was won by Taryn Simon and Michael Subotzky, in 2008 the award was presented to Pieter Hugo (South Africa, 1976), the 2009 edition saw Leonie Purchas (United Kingdom, 1978) as the winner and last year, 2010, Alexander Gronsky (Estonia, 1980) received the Award.
