Fan Mingzhen and Fan Mingzhu

This exhibition, curated by Yang Zhenzhong, Xu Zhen and Tang Maohong was held in Shanghai for the occasion of the Shanghai Biennale in November 2002.

The space was organized as a “mirrored” gallery. Spectators could choose between one of the two exhibition halls, going from one hall to another; in doing so they discovered that the exhibited artworks were all the same, except for small, subtle differences.

This event was self-supported and put together without corporate sponsors. It was possible only through a huge economical and emotional investment by the artists themselves and by the BizArt organization. This fresh perspective on the display of artworks was tinged with a sense of irony; it was a dramatic recreation of the space. Our success was measured in the hundreds of visitors that came throughout the two day exhibition.
