Collecting Practices in Photography: Pathshala, Dhaka and Bangladesh

Yasmine Eid-Sabbagh, after taking part in Chobi Mela V in January 2009 by showing the work, A photographic conversation from Burj al-Shamali camp, was asked to contribute in some way to education at Pathshala Institute. Yasmine proposed a workshop to Pathshala’s third year students on Collecting Practices in Photography in March, 2010. The workshop ended with a presentation of the student’s research approaches in Pathshala premises. At that time the Prince Claus Fund Network meeting was also taking place in Dhaka.

Yasmine had the chance to get Jorge Villacorta from ATA (Peru) involved in the conversation with the students, as well as Davide Quadrio of Arthub Asia. Considering the research approaches of the students as interesting, Davide Quadrio proposed to pursue the work with the students in order to produce an exhibition/installation in collaboration with them.

For this, and after being in touch with the students by email since March 2010, we would now like to return to Dhaka twice to further evolve our collaboration. We will travel in October 2010 to Dhaka in order to deepen the work with the students and elaborate the process of this collaboration. In January 2011 we will return again to Dhaka, prior to the Chobi Mela festival, in order to finalize the work with the students and produce and install the exhibition/installation together.
