Brave New Worlds: China (Beijing) to the Congo (Kinshasa)

Arthub is delighted to participate and provide support to the project ‘Brave New Worlds,’ from China (Beijing) to the Congo (Kinshasa); this is a research initiative of Theater in Motion (TIM) in Beijing and Royal Flemish Theater (KVS) in Brussels.

The project focuses on the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa) and The People’s Republic of China (Beijing) and the mobility between these two places. A group of Chinese artists, architects and writers are selected to collaborate with a group of Congolese counterparts (every group consists of 4 to 5 people); they must track down the presence of their expatriate compatriots in the Congo and China respectively. They will map the Chinese presence in the Congo (Kinshasa) and the Congolese presence in China (Beijing or Yiwu2) in the form of (1) narratives (ie people), (2) objects and (3) buildings.

The Chinese participants who just returned from the Congo include Chen Shuyu, Zhao Chuan, Jiang Jun, Tozer Pak Sheung Chuen and Chi Peng.

The project will run for four months, from March to July 2010. The first presentation will be hosted by Frie Leysen at the Theater der Welt in Essen, from 5:00 to 11:00 pm, in July.
